Picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue… This one caught me off guard. The man in this video is different from the typical characters I encounter on my daily travels through downtown San Jose. I have seen a lot of shocking stuff downtown but for some reason this guy topped the list. He looks like a normal Silicon Valley tech guy or maybe someone visiting for a convention, but he obviously has a BIG problem. This video was filmed about a month ago and hopefully this man is still alive. Inhalants are one of the most brutal drugs on the planet and this guy has a bag full of them to huff; legal, everyday cleaning solvents that are very dangerous when inhaled. We have enough problems getting our homeless population under control and this man is not helping the problem. He has chosen the steps of a church, across the street from a kid’s park, to get high. His high lasts just a few minutes so he tries to make it last by continuing to inhale again and again. It is disturbing even for me to watch, let alone young children. Watching the expression on the children’s faces walking past this man was very hard to swallow. This man appears to be a clean-cut tech dork. By the way he is dressed and the pricey stuff he’s carrying, he more than likely has a job. This guy almost got ran over by the light rail and kept dropping his belongings: wallet, Ipad, Mac Book, Apple Watch and Smart Phone. He is lucky he did not get robbed or hurt. If this man has family, I am sure they want to know what he is doing away from home. This man could very well be a husband and father that needs the help of the public to get treatment. Hopefully, this video can get his loved ones involved to get him help. Or maybe just a good old Public Shaming on YouTube to save his life… It’s hard to know what’s the right thing to do for this man.
